Location - Upper Mahaica River, Region #4, Republic of Guyana; South America Population - 1,300 persons, 94% of the Lokono-Arawak Tribe. Government - Autonomous Village Council - un-paid voluntary service. Chief alone gets a stipend of US$50.00 per month from Government of Guyana. Type - Best classified as Indigenous Socialism, One Chief is democratically elected by simple majority vote once every two years, assisting the Chief are 8 Village Council Members including 1 special advisor to the Chief, and 1 Deputy Chief. Private free enterprise allowed, Health Care free, Education free, all lands held in common and freely allocated by the Village Council to members of the community according to their needs and abilities to utilise it in a way that benefits the community as a whole - such as for farming, Major Industries - Timber, Woodsculpting, Hand Crafts, Eco-Tourism Languages - Arawak, English. Education - Nursery, Primary, Secondary. Electricity - Limited supply from community owned diesel generator - locals subscribe to the service and these funds are used to purchase fuel and for maintennance. Some Solar generated electricity. Drinking & Cooking Water - from underground artesian well piped to various public taps throughout the community where residents collect it in buckets. Bath water - residents mainly bathe twice daily, once in the morning, once in the evening; in the main (Mahaica) River. Unemployment - Estimated at around 20%. International Politics - interests represented by Damon Gerard Corrie, a descendant heir of traditional hereditary Eagle Clan Lokono-Arawak leaders - who lives in exile in Barbados.
